Westport through the Buller Gorge then up to the Denniston Plateau.

August 2008 Sunday 17th |
Auckland:
Fish & Chips at the Beach. Braving the rain,
low cloud and a miserable 8°C a good team from TR Register and ATCC ventured on
a most enjoyable winter drive through north and north west Auckland. After
travelling over quite a few roads never visited before and stopping to look at
all the model cars in Helensville the run ended up at Shelly Beach on the
Kaipara Harbour for a great lunch. John Lee's TR6 & Richard Wooster's TR7 below
shown alongside the Shelly Beach Wharf may tell the story about the weather
although it had cleared somewhat by lunchtime!

Auckland: ATCC "Show & Shine" at
St Heliers The only two Triumphs to make it to the annual ATCC - TR
Register Show & Shine at St Heliers for 2008. This event
has to date been blessed with good weather for every year it has been held but,
alas, this year it was not to be so! Normally Rangitoto Island would be
conspicuously visible in the background
but on this Sunday morning
it was just drizzle and small whitecaps as the weather steadily deteriorated for
the day. Event cancelled but may be held towards the end of the
year. Watch the calendar for details........

April 2008 Sunday 20th |
Auckland: TR Mystery Run: An
excellent run starting from Albany and touring through some very interesting
country to the north of Auckland in the autumn sunshine. Great views
and even more spectacular were the several huge mansions
scattered around the otherwise tree covered slopes. A good number of cars
participated including several members of Auckland Triumph Car Club.
The run ended at the Riverhead Tavern for a late lunch. Located about
38km from the centre of the city this tavern was established in 1857 and, along
with the adjacent area has a long and interesting
history Organised (including the diabolical questions!)
by Jan Hendricks and Alisdair Keucke and enjoyed by all..

April 2008 Tuesday 16th - Wednesday 17th |
Auckland: TR7 Recovered. An immaculate TR7 DH belonging to member Richard Jacques was stolen from his home during a daylight burglary. After an anxious 29 hours it was located in a nearby suburb after short search by another TR Register member. The TR7 appeared to be undamaged. | |

Auckland: Everyone knows that
Auckland has some traffic problems. The City Council has a team of intelligent
staff hard at work finding solutions.. An April example is shown below!

Saturday 24 November to Sunday 25 November |
Deep South Group - End of Year Mystery Tour Weekend: A wonderful weekend in the Deep South. With about 20 TRs and 4 almost TRs (2 Stags, 1 Spitfire and a MGB) there was plenty of enjoyable motoring for everyone (about 700km and all with the top DOWN!) over the excellent and almost deserted roads in Southland and Otago. Starting on Saturday morning in Lawrence first stop was at Tapanui for a superb morning tea in the sunshine at the home of the organisers, Alan & Norma Parks. From there westwards with a beautiful lunch stop to end up at Manapouri for the Saturday evening dinner complete with Christmas crackers. On Sunday morning everyone headed back to Lumsden and then north to Bannockburn for a tasty lunch in the sun at The Lazy Dog cafe before returning home.
Still can't work out how they get the sheep so clean............must be a big
machine....? |
|
| Sunday 4 November |
Canterbury - Akaroa Run: Sometimes it is
great when the met service gets it all wrong .... and fortunately this was one of those
occasions. Sunday in Christchurch was predicted to be wet and
generally not very nice at all but it turned out just about perfect for this
most enjoyable tour of Banks Peninsular. About thirty people ended
up at French Farm for an excellent lunch followed by a visit to Akaroa returning
via the "top road" which must be one of New Zealand's more interesting
drives .. scenic beyond belief and a great road for a convoy of TR's to enjoy!
Thank you Glenn & Sue for organising this
excellent day. (More in December TRansmission ) |

Organised by John Lee in conjunction with ATCC the day started with a visit to view Brian Whiteman's art works and enjoy an exquisite morning tea. TRavels for May. Evan and his team are obviously very clever and talented engineers and tradesmen, and would be well worth considering if your classic requires major or minor repairs or rejuvenation. Thanks heaps, Evan for a very enjoyable afternoon. While the blokes were enjoying themselves, The ladies also were out enjoying themselves with a ladies day out at “Just Plane Interesting”. We then regrouped for a barbeque at Marian and Jan's place. This certainly topped off a really social and enjoyable day. Thanks to Marian and Jan. It was also good to mix it with other clubs. Thanks to the Triumph and Sunbeam Owners Club for coming along and supporting us. We have another interesting month lined up with a tech night at BOC gases and a run to an interesting Historical sight and then a winery in our own back yard. Hope to catch up soon. Cheers

off on a scenic drive to Kaiaua. The refreshments at the local pub
and the Fish 'n Chips were excellent, the weather was perfect and the company
most enjoyable. Below: Part of the group enjoying their Fish 'n Chips

Rolleston, just south of Christchurch around midday. The excellent lunch was made even more enjoyable by
tastings of our hosts excellent wines and, of course, a number
of Bernard Egan's tales ....... Thank you Bernard and the

July 2005 Friday 1 July to Sunday 3 July |
Auckland - Murder Mystery Weekend 2005:
Another TR Register Murder Mystery Weekend again impeccably organised by
Peter, Jenni & Sam Mence. Starting with the 1950 OSCAR's
evening on Friday night in Auckland the weekend progressed with a well planned
and interesting journey through South Auckland, Franklin, Waikato and
Hauraki Planes to a lunch stop at an excellent winery and cafe, Ohinemuri
Estate, in the Karangahake Gorge.
From there to Waihi Beach for the Saturday evening. Below is most of the
cast (except photographer Sam and dead body Graeme Nuttall).
Kevin Glover in the role of Louis Armstrong (note the well suntanned trumpet player below) gave us all a weekend of "alternative" trumpet playing(?) (Keven, if you plan to continue please go to the Falklands to practice). All in all an excellent weekend in this series of events that the Mence family have organised that just keep getting better and better. Who done it? The plot would make the average Agatha Christie novel look like kindergarten material and would take about a day to explain! However, that sneaky alpha driver, Guiseppe Farina (World's first Formula 1 champion in 1950) masquerading as Jan Hendrix (second from left below) had the blood on his hands this year From your shy and sensitive reporter, Humphery |
